Apixaban is used for the prevention of post surgical venous thromboembolism. It's ability to prevent coagulation comes from the inhibition of thrombin generation via the inhibition of coagulation fact Xa (fXa). Apixaban fXa Ki = 0.08 nM, with a high degree of selectivity versus other proteases. In the human microsone assay, Apixaban was shown to be very stable with T 1/2 of > 100 min.
