Ionic organosilicon compounds in which a silanol group is deprotonated to give an anionic Si–O⁻ species, typically supplied as sodium or lithium siliconates. Water-soluble and applied directly to concrete, masonry, and brick as penetrating water repellents. React with calcium hydroxide and carbonates in the substrate to form a durable hydrophobic layer.
